2020 NFL Draft: Four Green Bay Packers trade-up targets
The Green Bay Packers have late picks in the first two rounds of the 2020 NFL draft but these targets could attract them enough to trade up.
The Green Bay Packers currently hold the 30th overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft and have ten picks in total. Five of those selections are in rounds six and seven but I expect that will change once the action is underway.
While Aaron Rodgers is still playing at a high level, realistically he only has a couple of Super Bowl-caliber seasons left in him, so I expect the Packers to ensure all of their picks are players that are ready to contribute right away. That means trade-up scenarios are likely, as the top three rounds of the 2020 NFL Draft are loaded with talent at key positions of need for Green Bay.
The obvious point of emphasis for the Packers will be at the wide receiver position, where they have needed help for Davante Adams since the days of Jordy Nelson and Randall Cobb. Luckily this is a historically deep class of pass-catchers so I expect Green Bay to come away with a couple of notable talents at the position in the first few rounds.
While wide receiver is easily their top priority, they will also need to address issues on the offensive line, linebacker and tight end before the 2020 NFL draft comes to an end. These needs leave the possibility of several different Green Bay Packers trade-up scenarios and I have highlighted a few here.
Denzel Mims, WR, Baylor
Aaron Rodgers is one of the best quarterbacks of this generation but if he is going to put together another Super Bowl season in Green Bay, the team needs more weapons around him, specifically at wide receiver. The need outside has been evident for a couple of seasons now and the 2020 NFL Draft is the perfect place to finally land another threat opposite Davante Adams.
One player that has arguably had the most significant rise up draft boards since the 2019 college football season ended is former Baylor wide receiver, Denzel Mims.
Mims is a long, speedy pass-catcher with terrific hands and a huge catch radius. His ability on the outside is a perfect complement to Adams, who the Packers like to use inside and out.
In the last three seasons with the Bears, Mims racked up some gaudy numbers, bringing down 182 balls for over 2,900 yards and 28 touchdowns. Those numbers alone would perk up some ears but he went on to help himself even more with his dominant Senior Bowl and NFL Combine performances.
Mims has elite physical tools and if he can fine-tune his short to intermediate route tree, he could make a huge impact in year one with the Packers. Mims should be the team’s top trade-up target in the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft.
