Trade up to No. 5 for Tristan Wirfs

This trade was to get in front of the Chargers in the scenario that the Chargers would be selecting an offensive tackle. You might be saying, “but Garrett, the Giants could very well take an offensive tackle and you traded behind them;” you’re right, but the asking price for five is a lot cheaper than the asking price for three, and the Cardinals would still be selecting a top two offensive tackle on their board rather than the third offensive tackle on their board by staying at eight.

If I were a betting man, I would be putting money down on Mekhi Becton and Tristan Wirfs as the first two offensive tackles off the board. Those two are some of the biggest athletic freaks we’ve ever seen at the position. Wirfs is the most athletic offensive lineman to enter the draft in recent memory, and Becton can move like someone who weighs forty pounds less than he does.

The Cardinals re-signed D.J. Humphries to be one of their starting tackles, but they still need another one. In this scenario, the Cardinals select Tristan Wirfs. I think there’s a good chance that Wirfs is the Arizona Cardinals’ OT1 and given the chance to draft him, they would.

After the Giants selected Mekhi Becton in this scenario, Wirfs falls right into the Cardinals laps and they don’t hesitate to pull the trigger. They give one of the most athletic quarterbacks in the NFL one of the most athletic offensive tackles in the NFL to protect him. In this scenario, after a trade with the Miami Dolphins up to No. 5, the Arizona Cardinals select Tristan Wirfs, offensive tackle, Iowa.
