One-and-Done NBA-style first-round 2020 NFL mock draft
By David Glancy
After overachieving in 2019 behind a playoff run which upset the Patriots and Ravens, the Titans have multiple needs entering the draft. While the Titans would like to add a defensive end, with the young talent available later, the Titans draft the most ready tackle in the draft to replace the traded Jurrell Casey. Despite an underwhelming combine, Brown has been a dominant force at Auburn and has demonstrated the skill set of being an interior NFL lineman.
Labeled “Baby Gronk”, Freiermuth was eligible to enter the 2020 NFL Draft but declined the opportunity to return to Penn State for his junior year after spending one year as a postgraduate.
Freiermuth is an incredibly physical tight end who creates his own touchdowns. He has the ability to get around defenders and open space downfield or can be a high volume, short-yardage target. While he has room to develop as a blocker, the Packers are taking him in the first round to give Rodgers a top-end talent at the position.
After letting up 21 unanswered points to see their Super Bowl run fall just short to the Chiefs, the 49ers saw a moderate change in the team this offseason leading with the trade of DeForest Buckner. The 49ers will still boast one of the premier defensive lines and use their first-round selection addressing their biggest area of need, their secondary.
While their defense was tremendous during the 2019 season, star cornerback Richard Sherman just turned 32 and the 49ers do not appear to have a top-level replacement on the roster. Trevon Diggs may not be fully developed but would make an immediate impact in the 49ers secondary and have room to grow as Sherman’s successor.
After losing Kendall Fuller to the Redskins in free agency, the Chiefs make cornerback a focus with their first-round pick of this 2020 NFL mock draft. Bashaud Breeland remains unsigned and the Chiefs have only addressed the departures with the signing of little-known Antonio Hamilton. Despite playing in a defense with Patrick Queen, Kristian Fulton, K’Lavon Chaisson and Grant Delpit, Stingley Jr. may have been the most talented LSU defender, despite being a true freshman.
Stingley Jr. was tied for fifth in the nation in interceptions with six, leading the SEC in interceptions and passes defended. Stingley Jr., a top 20 prospect in ESPN’s recruiting rankings immediately saw the field at LSU. After lining up against Burrow, Jefferson, Chase and the record-setting offense in practice, Stingley became one of the nation’s top defenders.
