One-and-Done NBA-style first-round 2020 NFL mock draft
By David Glancy
In this 2020 NFL mock draft, we take a look at how currently ineligible underclassmen would impact the 2020 NFL Draft.
Each year, an underclassman player will burst onto the college football scene and attract interest from NFL Draft experts raising the question, “if this player were eligible, how high would they be selected in the Draft?” In the 2018 season, Trevor Lawrence’s phenomenal freshman season had pundits wondering if he could go as high as first overall.
Before Lawrence, Sam Darnold was considered the most exciting quarterback prospect coming off an impressive debut season ending with a Rose Bowl victory. Besides quarterback, a “generational type” description is applied to a defensive end or corner generating the question of how high they could go in the upcoming draft, leading to early mock drafts for the upcoming season.
For every preseason number one like Darnold, there is a Christian Hackenberg that falls behind lesser-known prospects entering the season like Jared Goff or Carson Wentz. This 2020 NFL mock draft factors in the “what ifs” and allows eligibility to all players one year removed from high school, similarly to the NBA Draft.
With all players from the 2019 College Football season eligible, how will underclassmen have an impact on the first round and what projected 2020 prospects could fall? As the pool of eligible players is substantially larger than the actual 2020 NFL Draft class, any trade made which included swapping a first-round pick has been reset in order to give each team an opportunity to draft from the larger field.
With so many talented underclassmen and additional franchise quarterbacks that could be available, an unprecedented number of trades could occur, so this format allows each franchise to make a selection. Follow along and check out this NBA-style 2020 NFL mock draft with all 2019 College Football players available.
