1. Interior Offensive Line

The Detroit Lions have zero reliable starters at the offensive guard position that have proven they can consistently play at a high level in the NFL. The best guard on their roster is Joe Dahl, a former day three pick who has yet to take on a full-time starting role.

Dahl has shown promise when rotated into the starting line-up, far outplaying his fellow rotator Kenny Wiggins. He should have been given the full-time starting left guard job, but for some odd reason, the coaching staff chose to keep up the rotation all year.

After losing elite guard Graham Glasgow in free agency to the Denver Broncos, the Lions made no real efforts to replace him. And so they sit with an offensive guard pool of Dahl, Oday AboushiBeau Benzschawel, and Josh Garnett. So, going into the 2020 NFL Draft, an offensive guard has got to be at the top of the list of needs.

None of the guards listed above has handled a starting gig in years, and when they did, they weren’t all that impressive. The Lions need to improve at least one of the starting guard spots if they don’t want the offensive line to be a complete mess in 2020.

Some options to keep an eye on earlier in the draft are Michigan’s Cesar Ruiz, LSU’s Lloyd Cushenberry III, and Louisiana standout Robert Hunt. Going into day three and the later rounds, look out for Georgia’s Solomon Kindley, Michigan’s Ben Bredeson, and Wisconsin’s Tyler Biadasz.
