Round Two:

2.38: Jeremy Chinn, Safety, Southern Illinois

Just like in the first round, the Panthers were targeting another position, but they did land a good one here in safety Jeremy Chinn. I would’ve liked a cornerback here for Carolina, but Chinn was simply the better value pick.

Chinn is a big-time game changer as he recorded at least three interceptions every season at Southern Illinois, including four picks in 2019. The Panthers may have re-signed Tre Boston, but any team can use a guy who can create turnovers and Chinn can certainly do that.

Chinn has great anticipation which is the direct result of his ability to create takeaways. He is also great in helping defend against the run. Just don’t ask him to play in man coverage as that is likely his biggest weakness as a prospect.  Other than that, Chinn would be able to do it all for the Carolina Panthers.

Round Three:

3.69: Cameron Dantzler, CB, Mississippi State

With this pick, the Panthers were able to get great value while also addressing a key position when they selected Mississippi State cornerback Cameron Dantzler. I personally have a high-mid second-round grade on Dantzler, so this a very good pickup for the Carolina Panthers.

Dantzler is a tall and long cornerback prospect, but he could certainly benefit by putting more weight on his frame. He could be pushed around in the NFL if he doesn’t. Other than that, Dantzler does a great job of utilizing his long arms to break up passes. He also is a willing helper in defending the run. Yet another solid building block for this defense.
