Top team needs for the Kansas City Chiefs in the 2020 NFL Draft
Interior Offensive Line
It’s pretty clear that the Kansas City Chiefs are loaded on offense. The receiver group is excellent, they have a top tight end in Travis Kelce, and that Patrick Mahomes is pretty good too. They’ve even got a solid pair of bookends, and right tackle Mitchell Schwartz is one of the best in football on the right side.
Their one weakness is the interior offensive line. One of the big reasons that the Chiefs struggled in the Super Bowl was that the 49ers defensive line could create quick pressure, and a big part of that falls at guard and center.
So who could the Kansas City Chiefs look to draft on the interior? The class isn’t super great, but there are options for the Chiefs, especially in the middle rounds. Finding prospects with raw power and a good anchor in pass protection would be key. Louisiana’s Robert Hunt fits the bill, along with guys like John Simpson from Clemson and Shane Lemieux from Oregon.
If they decide to address the position earlier in the draft, there’s only one name to consider: Michigan’s Cesar Ruiz. Ruiz played center for the Wolverines but could make the transition to guard. He gets out of his stance quick and has the mobility to pull and get to the second level.
