The Front Seven

We’ve discussed how corner is a need, but the Kansas City Chiefs front seven could use some more talent as well. Frank Clark and Chris Jones have been dynamite, but finding someone opposite Clark would help. Alex Okafor is slotted there for now, but he’s often injured. The linebacker position could also use an influx of young talent. Anthony Hitchens played well last season, but it isn’t enough.

Let’s start with the edge spot. The Chiefs aren’t in a position to select either of the top two edge defenders in the class, and it gets dicey after that.

A.J. Epenesa has stellar tape, but if he succeeds in the NFL, he will be an outlier in terms of his size and testing. Yetur Gross-Matos is another favorite of analysts, and while he is a good athlete, he’s still raw and has plenty of development ahead of him. Julian Okwara is an intriguing thought in the first round, as he has great bend around the edge, but this might be best to wait until round two.

As for linebacker, the 2020 NFL Draft has two names who could potentially fall to 32 if things break well. Both Kenneth Murray and Patrick Queen would be good selections in round one, but if the Chiefs miss out, waiting until the later rounds would make sense. If they want speed, Akeem Davis-Gaither would be an option. Logan Wilson could be another mid-round pick, and he has great skills in coverage.
