Scouting Report. Edge. Chase Young. 2. player. Pick Analysis. Ohio State. 52

Chase Young is one of the best prospects in recent memory. He could develop into one of the best defensive players to ever play football. He’s NFL ready enough to contend for not just Defensive Rookie of the Year, but even NFL Defensive Player of the Year.

From a physical perspective, Young is the perfect prototype for a defensive end.  He has great size (6-foot-5, 265 pounds) and a freakish combination of strength and athleticism. He’s also not just a freakish physical talent, but he’s very developed as a pass rusher. At Ohio State, he won pass rushes at a crazy rate in a variety of ways including with elite quickness, great hand usage, by leveraging his strength in bullrushes and by utilizing his flexibility to bend the edge.

Obviously trading up all the way from nine to two to secure Young would be a steep cost, but an article by Bleacher Report’s Maurice Morton had an idea that probably won’t happen, but is at least worth mentioning as a possibility. The idea is for the Jacksonville Jaguars to give up Yannick Ngakoue, who they recently franchise-tagged, and both their first-round picks at nine overall and 20 overall for the number two pick and a fourth-round pick.

Giving up all that for one player on a team with a lot of holes would certainly be a risk, but it may be worth it to get a player like Chase Young.
