Examining the top needs for the San Francisco 49ers in the 2020 NFL Draft.

It was quite a season for the San Francisco 49ers. After coaching down at the Senior Bowl and picking second in the 2019 NFL Draft, the 49ers dominated during their 2019 campaign, winning the NFC West and securing the top seed in the NFC Playoffs and home-field advantage. After two statement wins, San Francisco found themselves in the Super Bowl against the Kansas City Chiefs.

The 49ers held a 20-10 lead in the fourth quarter but fell victim to an offensive flurry led by Patrick Mahomes, Damien Williams and Tyreek Hill. Jimmy Garoppolo faltered under pressure, and the season ended in disappointment, 31-20.

The good news is that the 49ers have the roster to return and play in Tampa Bay in 2021. While it is one of the better rosters in football, there are still some holes. General manager John Lynch made a blockbuster move early during the free agency period, trading defensive tackle DeForest Buckner to the Colts for the 13th overall pick in the draft.

The move was a bit controversial from San Francisco’s side, especially since coaches and players believed that Buckner was a big driver on that defensive line.

It does, however, give the Niners a chance to trade back acquire more picks, as they have two first-rounders and don’t pick until round five after that. Trading back will give San Francisco a chance to address their top needs. There aren’t too many, but let’s take a look at the Niners’ top needs as we head into the 2020 NFL Draft.
