Edge Defender

The Miami Dolphins have made some improvements along the defensive line in the last year. Selecting Christian Wilkins in the first round of the 2019 draft was smart, and we talked about Shaq Lawson joining the Dolphins. Vince Biegel, who led the Dolphins in sacks in 2019, is also back.

However, Miami shouldn’t be satisfied. Building an elite defensive line is a big deal. Look at the final four teams in the playoffs. The Packers added Za’Darius Smith and Preston Smith and it paid off in a big way. The 49ers defensive line was a major reason they reached the Super Bowl. Tennessee had a great front, and Kansas City had two elite players in Frank Clark and Chris Jones. Need any more proof?

So, let’s talk about adding more edge help for the Dolphins in the 2020 NFL Draft. Chase Young likely won’t be in play, so it may be beneficial to wait until round two, where two good fits exist. A.J. Epenesa has taken a tumble in recent weeks in terms of draft stock, but his length and technique is something Flores would covet. Penn State’s Yetur Gross-Matos is a good athlete with requisite length. He needs time to develop, but it could pay off in a big way.
