Top team needs for Miami Dolphins in the 2020 NFL Draft
Quarterback
Quarterback is, of course, the biggest need for the Miami Dolphins in the 2020 NFL Draft. During the 2019 draft, Miami traded for 2018 first-round pick Josh Rosen and gave him the opportunity to win the job for the 2019 season. Alas, it didn’t work out, and Ryan Fitzpatrick ended up starting for most of the year.
Fitzpatrick isn’t the long term option, but he can be a bridge quarterback until their draft pick is ready to go. So who will they take to be their guy? Rumors are swirling about a potential trade up to number one overall for Joe Burrow, but it seems highly unlikely.
The decision will come down to either Alabama’s Tua Tagovailoa or Oregon’s Justin Herbert. Selecting Tagovailoa at the fifth overall pick would bring the “Tank for Tua” movement full circle, but there are injury concerns with him, despite his prolific abilities as a passer.
His accuracy to all levels of the field, quick trigger and his improving pocket awareness give him a high floor on the field. Herbert has all the physical tools, including a rocket arm and athleticism. The only thing that holds Herbert back at times is his inconsistency.
Utah State’s Jordan Love could be on the table if they pass on a quarterback at five, but the smart decision is to take one early, especially with the talent at the top of the class.
