Wide Receiver. Alabama. 35. Scouting Report. Henry Ruggs III. 2. player. Pick Analysis

Honorable mention: Tee Higgins, Clemson, Round 2

While the wide receiver position isn’t exactly one that was depleted in free agency for the Tennessee Titans, I feel that it is one of the most important to address if the team wants to contend again this season.

A.J. Brown was an absolute gem coming out of the second round of the draft last season, but after giving Ryan Tannehill a shiny new contract, the Titans should consider giving him a shiny new weapon as well.

The most dynamic weapon of the 2020 NFL Draft? Many would argue that it is Henry Ruggs III. Another Crimson Tide player expected to be selected in the top 15 picks, Ruggs is one of the hottest names in the draft community right about now. Many now believe that he could surpass both his teammate Jerry Jeudy and Oklahoma’s CeeDee Lamb in becoming the first wide receiver off the board in the 2020 NFL Draft.

Just about everyone who pays any attention at all to the NFL and the draft knows that Ruggs has blinding speed. But he is much more than just his 40-time. His speed is absolutely one of his greatest assets, but he is far from a one-trick pony.

Ruggs is a very underrated route runner who always seems to find the lull in the defense for his quarterback to find him. Once he gets the ball in his hands, good luck catching him and bringing him down. He is very effective on screens and is a real threat to take the shortest of throws to the house. He also has very reliable hands all across the field.

Depending on how the 2020 NFL Draft plays out, there could be a lot of teams looking to move up. Whether it is quarterback, offensive linemen or any of these three talented wide receivers that fall outside the top 12 or 15 picks, phone lines will be ringing off the hook.

In the case that any of the three top receivers fall, particularly if it’s Ruggs, the Titans should see what it would take to go get them. Surely, they would be competing with many other teams and therefore would likely have to give up draft capital from next year, but if they land a player like Ruggs they should believe that their picks next year would once again be towards the end of each round.

Honorable mention Tee Higgins was once in the conversation with Ruggs as the third-best wideout in the 2020 NFL Draft. But as evaluators continue to dissect his film and his pre-draft process, he is really falling down draft boards.

I believe that Higgins is certainly a first-round talent, so if he does fall into the second, the Titans should be keeping their eyes out. Where Ruggs would give Tannehill another deep threat and speedy, dynamic weapon to get the ball to, Higgins would provide him with a big-body receiver with a great catch radius and very good ball skills.

Higgins will still likely be off the board by the time the Tennessee Titans pick with the 61st overall selection in the second round, so they may want to make the jump into the mid-to-late 30s if they want to bring in the talented Clemson receiver. However, the team may opt to wait to address the position until the later rounds given the incredible depth of the 2020 NFL Draft wide receiver class.
