Detroit Lions 7-round 2020 NFL mock draft: Stockpiling talent
I offered multiple trade scenarios to both the Miami Dolphins and Los Angeles Chargers and this was the best deal that I could come up with. The Chargers agreed to part with their second and third-round picks in order to move up to No. 3 from No. 6. In this trade, the Lions pick up some valuable 2020 NFL Draft capital for later and are still in a position to pick a premium defensive player. This trade is a no-brainer for Detroit.
Jeffrey Okudah stands out as the most obvious target for the Detroit Lions at the top of the draft and he is still available when they go back on the clock at No. 6. After trading away Darius Slay, the Lions have a major hole at the cornerback position. Okudah is not only the best cornerback prospect in this class, but he is also the best prospect at the position in recent memory.
Okudah has it all at the position. Ideal size and length, quick feet, fantastic instincts, tremendous athleticism and great ball skills. He is a tenacious man-to-man defender who can press at the line of scrimmage when asked to do so and also close on the ball quickly when asked to play off-man. Okudah also reads the quarterback well in zone coverage and can step up and defend against the run.
He is a true shutdown cornerback in the making who has tremendous natural upside at the next level. Trading down a few spots and still landing Okudah is a dream scenario for the Detroit Lions in this 2020 NFL mock draft.
