1. Henry Ruggs III, Wide Receiver, Alabama

With the 11th pick of this mock draft, the New York Jets select the dynamic wide receiver from Alabama, Henry Ruggs III. It took me a long time to hop on the Ruggs train, but the guy is just a game-changer. The New York Jets haven’t drafted a wide receiver in the first round since 2001 when they took one of my favorite Jets of all time, Santana Moss.

Many people like to compare Ruggs to Tyreek Hill, which I understand, but Moss may be a better comparison. He may be a bit of a throwback, but Moss was super dynamic and displayed scary elusiveness and speed. Ruggs may have the speed of a track star, but he is 100% a football player.

His hands are very natural and he has a nice catch radius which is not expected with his slim frame. He’s made catches that left me baffled like his one-handed catch against LSU where he reached back with one hand on a quick slant while also getting drilled by a linebacker. Add that to his ability to take a short pass to the house and you’re looking at a plus 1,000-yard receiver with double-digit touchdowns.

When you take a look at the New York Jets receivers there’s not much that scares you. Jamison Crowder is a very good slot receiver, but there’s little behind him. They didn’t bring back Robby Anderson, but they did replace him with Breshad Perriman who has the potential to be a solid third option for Darnold.

They do have developmental guys like Vyncint Smith and Braxton Berrios, plus a low-risk guy in Josh Doctson, but they need a guy that can bring fear to a defense and Henry Ruggs can provide that.
