In this seven-round 2020 NFL mock draft, the New York Jets find a new target for Sam Darnold early.

The New York Jets are talent deprived at numerous key positions. They need to find a true number one receiver with playmaking ability. They do not have much talent in their cornerback room despite re-signing Brian Poole and adding former Colts cornerback Pierre Desir. Gang Green has lacked any real threat off the edge since maybe 2010 and their offensive line is still shaky.

New York Jets general manager Joe Douglas said he was going to focus on the offensive line in free agency and he definitely did just that. He signed four free-agent linemen and also brought back Alex Lewis, who started 12 games at left guard for New York. The biggest signing was former Broncos center Connor McGovern who looks to solidify the interior of the offensive line. He’ll likely team with Lewis and new right guard Greg Van Roten, formerly of the Carolina Panthers.

The biggest question mark remains at both tackle positions. Douglas’ first signing was a three-year, $30 million deal for former Seahawks tackle George Fant. His deal for all sense and purposes is just a one year deal as New York can get out of the contract after the 2020 season. Fant isn’t a very stable option for either tackle spot, but he does give the Jets a reason not to reach for a tackle at 11 if there are better options on the board.

As for the other tackle spot, the New York Jets seem to be high on second-year tackle Chuma Edoga who had his fair share of struggles but does have the potential to be a decent lineman.

When I started planning this mock draft out, I was dead set on the direction the New York Jets would go. They need to grab one of the offensive linemen at the top of the draft. However, as the Draft Network’s mock draft simulator went on all of the top tackles were off the board. I do not value all of the top tackles enough to make a move up the board for them, so sitting at 11 is probably the best move unless a team offers the right deal to move back.

The wide receiver class in this draft is insanely good so people may ask why would the Jets take one so high when they can grab one on day two. It’s pretty simple really. The top three receivers in this draft to me are so far ahead of the rest of the pack. All three are very dynamic playmakers that can change the game in an instant. The biggest question in this scenario would be which one do the New York Jets take?
