2020 NFL Draft: Late-round sleeper targets for the New Orleans Saints
Justin Strnad, LB, Wake Forest
The New Orleans Saints are a team that does not normally invest high draft capital in the linebacker position. They have just taken two linebackers in the first round since 1995. With AJ Klein leaving in free agency, I think this is the year they change that.
However, if they can’t leave the first round with Patrick Queen or Kenneth Murray, a guy like Justin Strnad would be a nice pick up late in the draft.
Strnad is a guy who has gone way under the radar but has most of the traits that NFL teams are looking for in a linebacker. The senior from Wake Forest brings good size, solid pass coverage and great range to the table. Strnad strikes me as a guy who has the potential to be a diamond in the rough.
He is coming off a season-ending biceps tear which could cause his stock to fall. Despite this, I believe he is definitely worth a late-round flyer, as he could immediately step in for the Saints to be a rotational linebacker and contribute on special teams.
In the long term, he has the size and skill set to be a starter in this league, it may take going to a contending organization to help maximize his potential.
