San Francisco 49ers mock draft: Jerry Jeudy on top
The San Francisco 49ers have 2020 NFL Draft flexibility with the trade of DeForest Buckner. How will they maneuver around the board?
The San Francisco 49ers may only be a couple of pieces away from another Super Bowl victory, which just eluded their grasp in the 2019 season.
After trading away DeForest Buckner to the Indianapolis Colts and watching Emmanuel Sanders sign with the New Orleans Saints, the 49ers have some clear areas of need heading into the 2020 NFL Draft.
How will they attack those needs?
This is a great draft class to need a wide receiver, so the 49ers could very well start there. As a matter of fact, they could be part of a run on wide receivers between the 10th and 15th picks where the top three receivers in the class come off the board.
Let’s look at a scenario using the NFL Mock Draft Database simulator where the 49ers replace some of the key players who have departed in the 2020 offseason.
Jerry Jeudy is a crafty, explosive playmaker at the wide receiver position who is so good, people are apparently looking for ways to rank other guys ahead of him in this class.
While the truly special speed of Henry Ruggs III could make him the first receiver off the board, Jeudy is some kind of consolation prize who would be a game-changer for the 49ers, even in comparison to the spark Emmanuel Sanders provided last season.
Jeudy and Deebo Samuel as the focus at wide receiver for this offense with George Kittle at tight end and the plethora of pass catching backs the 49ers have would be very tough to defend.
After trading down twice and picking up selections in the third and fourth round, the 49ers get their replacement for DeForest Buckner.
Although Davis’ production has stalled over the past two seasons, he’s been a tremendous run defender for the Crimson Tide and can offer additional value as a pass rusher, specifically when he’s lined up inside.
His job with the 49ers in addition to cleaning up in the pass rush department and stopping the run? Opening things up for the Niners’ tremendous edge players.
After trading down a couple of times out of the 31 spot to pick up extra picks in the third and fourth round, the 49ers move up again in this scenario and pick up one of the best nickel corner prospects in this draft class — Amik Robertson of Louisiana Tech.
Robertson has some of the best ball skills in the class along with a physical style of play that will certainly endear him to general manager John Lynch.
One of the best kept secrets so far in the pre-draft process, Robertson can play inside and outside at the next level and make an immediate impact on a team like San Francisco.
With the remaining day three picks the 49ers have, they can look to supplement their offensive line depth, perhaps looking for a developmental tackle on day three to groom behind Joe Staley. They can also continue to add depth to the secondary and perhaps even take another shot on a receiver in this deep class.
A move down the board off the 31st overall pick would not be a bad idea for San Francisco depending on which players are available, and getting this haul of players with their top three picks would keep them among the top contenders to come out on top in the NFC in 2020.
