2020 NFL Draft: Top team fits for wide receiver Denzel Mims
By Matt Murray
Houston Texans
The Houston Texans made the loudest and most questionable move in the free agency period by moving on from superstar DeAndre Hopkins in a trade with the Arizona Cardinals. In this move, they received the Cardinals second-round pick (40th overall), David Johnson and a 2021 fourth-round pick. The big news here is that the Texans are now without their number one receiver.
During free agency, the Texans signed veteran Randall Cobb to a three year, $27 million dollar contract, so they have filled a hole on their depth chart. However, make no mistake, Cobb will not be filling the number one receiver role for Houston. Also on their depth chart, the Texans have big-play specialist Will Fuller, but injury concerns make him hard to count on for a full season. Behind Fuller, they have quality depth with Kenny Stills, Keke Coutee and DeAndre Carter.
Moving forward Houston will have to continue to try and find their number one receiver and without the injury concerns, some could say that would be Fuller but unfortunately, that’s not the case. Mims may be the best shot they have this season toward their search to find a more viable and most importantly available option.
This move would only be possible if the Texans are willing to trade multiple picks including picks 40 and 90. For Mims’s sake, I hope this doesn’t happen because taking Hopkins’ spot with the only compensation the team received for him seems like an extraordinary amount of pressure for a young receiver especially if his drops continue into the NFL.
