2020 NFL Draft: Top team fits for wide receiver Denzel Mims
By Matt Murray
New York Jets
Robby Anderson has been the clear cut number one receiver in New York for the past three years but with his recent move to the Carolina Panthers, there is a major vacancy for the Jets to fill. The Jets did add free agent Breshad Perriman from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers but I don’t think that he will be able to fulfill the number one receiver duties moving forward.
Also, beyond Perriman, the Jets have Quincy Enunwa, Josh Doctson and Jamison Crowder, all who have failed to step up to number one receiving duties in the past.
The starters currently look like they will be Perriman, Enunwa, and Crowder in the slot. However, after this year that is bound to change with Perriman playing on just a one-year contract. Crowder and Enunwa both have multiple years left on their contracts so if they take a receiver here in the draft he can learn and will not have as much pressure before stepping up in his second year.
Also, Enunwa has been injury-prone throughout his career and it would not hurt to have someone ready to take his role if that happens again this year.
With their first selection in the 2020 NFL Draft, the Jets need an offensive tackle so it is a real possibility they target Mims at the end of the first round in an exchange of draft picks. Right now, there are multiple teams sitting at the end of day one with the potential to move back.
As I explained with the Broncos, I could see scenarios for both the Titans and 49ers looking to move back with the Jets. They could trade up by using a second-round pick (48) and one of their two third-round picks to move up for Mims.
