As mentioned in the introductory slide, the Baltimore Ravens will have to press on without one of their most reliable players in the last ten years. Yanda’s retirement leaves Baltimore with a potential need at right guard going forward and they may look to fill the need early in the draft.

The way the Baltimore Ravens offensive depth chart would shake out as of right now would have second-year pro Ben Powers filling the void at right guard. Behind him, the Baltimore Ravens have names such as R.J. Prince and Will Holden. After drafting Powers in the fourth-round last year, he’s the obvious choice to be the next man up. But the Baltimore Ravens don’t necessarily have to be sold on him as a starter.

In any case, whether it’s to be a starter or as a depth piece, the Baltimore Ravens could use another interior offensive guard. Enter Oregon’s, Calvin Throckmorton. While he may have played predominately at tackle for the Ducks, his athletic profile and skill set make his projection at the NFL level stem towards the interior.

Throckmorton shows the necessary power in his lower half to make an impact in the run game but his tendencies to over-step on passing downs are what’s driving his potential position switch.

If Baltimore believes that Powers is the starter there at right guard for the foreseeable future, then this pick merely becomes a depth move. However, if that is decidedly not the case then they could do a lot worse than drafting Throckmorton in rounds five-seven.
