Houston Texans: Late-Round sleepers to target in the 2020 NFL Draft
Khalil Davis, IDL, Nebraska
The Houston Texans must find a way to improve their pass-rush situation this offseason. According to ESPN’s pass-rush win rate stat, the Texans only won 35% of their pass rushes in 2019, the fifth-worst average in the entire NFL. No matter where it comes from, the Texans simply must find more players who can attack the quarterback in the 2020 NFL Draft.
If they decide to attack with an interior pass rusher late in the draft, Khalil Davis stands out as an obvious fit. Davis is extremely quick off of the ball and shows strong hands at the point of attack. He has an impressive combination of quickness and power that allows him to be a consistent threat as a one-gap penetrator. Davis has the talent to be an immediate playmaker as an interior rusher at the next level.
Jonathan Garvin, EDGE, Miami
Davis stands out as a strong interior pass-rush target for the Texans and Jonathan Garvin stands out as a strong fit for the team on the edge. Garvin is a quick, long and athletic rusher who shows impressive flexibility at the position. He gets consistent upfield burst on the edge and has the skills to create pressure on the passer. Garvin is a bit of an underdeveloped player, but he has a fantastic natural skill-set that gives him massive upside at the next level.
Benito Jones, IDL, Ole Miss
The Houston Texans lost D.J. Reader in free agency this offseason, leaving a massive hole for the team at the nose tackle position in their base 3-4 defense. The 2020 NFL Draft is not loaded with run-stuffing defensive tackles throughout, but Benito Jones stands out as a guy who would make sense for them late.
Jones is a big and powerful player who is strong at the point of attack. He is also an athletic player for his size, getting off of the ball quickly and showing plenty of upside as a one-gap penetrator. With an impressive combination of size and quickness, Jones has a chance to be a fantastic value selection late in the 2020 NFL Draft.
