Houston Texans: Late-Round sleepers to target in the 2020 NFL Draft
Late-Round sleepers the Houston Texans should target in the 2020 NFL Draft.
The Houston Texans kicked off the new NFL season with a bang, sending star wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins to the Arizona Cardinals in a league-altering deal. Giving up Hopkins for a second-round pick and an overpaid running back was a baffling move, but the Texans still have a talented roster with impact players on both sides of the ball. Led by Deshaun Watson, this team is still in a position to compete going forward.
The Texans undoubtedly have some exciting offensive and defensive playmakers, but they do lack impact depth at many key positions. In particular, edge rusher, defensive line, offensive line and wide receiver stand out as key needs for this team.
Houston is not exactly loaded with top-tier 2020 NFL Draft capital, so they will have to attack some of these needs with picks later in the draft. As of now, their 2020 NFL Draft picks are as followed:
- Round 2, 40th overall(from Arizona in Hopkins trade)
- Round 2, 57th overall
- Round 3, 90th overall
- Round 4, 111th overall
- Round 5, 171st overall
- Round 7, 240th overall
- Round 7, 248th overall
- Round 7, 250th overall
As you can see, the Houston Texans have five picks on Day 3 of the 2020 NFL Draft, including three late seventh-round selections. They are not in a great position to land multiple impact players early in the 2020 NFL Draft, but they are in a position to take a chance on multiple late-round sleepers who could grow into impact players for the team.
Which specific prospects should the Houston Texans be targeting late in the 2020 NFL Draft? Let’s take a look at some players who fit what they need.
