2020 NFL Draft: Free agency, big trades shake up 2-round mock draft
The New York Jets have really made the offensive line an emphasis this offseason, and for good reason.
They can’t let Sam Darnold continue to get hit as often as he has been if they want to have any sort of sustained success.
With the emphasis the Jets put on the offensive line in free agency, this pick could very well be a wide receiver or cornerback as well, two more areas of desperate need for New York. But they were also probably looking at potentially five changes up front.
So far in free agency, they have added:
- T George Fant
- C Connor McGovern
- G Alex Lewis (re-signed)
With Fant coming in from Seattle to presumably play the left tackle position, that raises some questions about this pick of Andrew Thomas, but Thomas is one of the most NFL-ready players on the offensive line in this draft class.
He could probably come and step in at either right guard or right tackle and be an upgrade, or the Jets could push Fant over to the right side.
One way or another, Thomas is an upgrade.
