San Francisco 49ers complete seven-round 2020 NFL mock draft
A cornerback or interior defensive lineman would probably be ideal here, but there simply was not a great value at either position available when the San Francisco 49ers went on the clock in this 2020 NFL mock draft. Instead of reaching for a bigger need, the 49ers find value with a prospect who fits their system well and still fills a lesser position of need.
Ezra Cleveland is still a raw and under-developed prospect, but he shows quick feet and incredible movement skills in space. Cleveland is an extremely athletic offensive lineman who shows a ton of natural upside as a pass-blocking offensive tackle. His quick feet and ability to move to space also makes him an ideal fit for the 49ers’ zone-blocking system.
Offensive tackle is not the most immediate need for the 49ers, but Joe Staley does not likely have many years left. If Staley retires after the 2020 season, selecting Cleveland would give the 49ers a ready-made replacement on the roster. In the meantime, San Francisco can either use Cleveland as a swing tackle or kick him inside to help fill their offensive guard need.
His combination of quickness and athleticism will play at any offensive line position. If Cleveland could handle offensive guard duties for a year or two and then replace Staley at left tackle at an adequate level, he would undoubtedly be worth this pick. A strong pick for the San Francisco 49ers here in this 2020 NFL mock draft.
