The Philadelphia Eagles now have eight draft picks this year, including five past the third round. Let’s look at some potential late-round targets for this team to use with those picks.

As free agency gets into full swing this week, general managers across the NFL begin assembling and forming their rosters for the upcoming season. Whether it’s free-agency contracts or trades with other teams, it doesn’t take long after the start of the legal tampering period for substantial moves to happen in free agency.

The Philadelphia Eagles have been uncharacteristically quiet during free agency so far. Outside of signing former Pittsburgh Steelers defensive tackle Javon Hargrave to a free-agent contract and trading for Darius Slay, the team has taken their time during free agency. In fact, the organization seems content to let cornerstones of the franchise walk, such as safety Malcolm Jenkins and left tackle Jason Peters.

The Philadelphia Eagles twitter account did confirm that cornerback Jalen Mills would be back for another season. The tweet seemed to indicate he could play cornerback and/or safety going forward, seemingly to assuage fan worries about a roster with slim safety depth. The fact it was posted on the same day as the Jenkins announcement was not lost on Eagles fans.

General manager Howie Roseman may still have a few irons in the fire and it would be foolish to assume the team is done in free agency. But if Slay ends up being the biggest offseason acquisition for the Philadelphia Eagles, we can assume that Roseman is looking to build this roster through their now eight selections in the 2020 NFL Draft.

The success or failure of this year’s draft will be determined by how well they draft in the later rounds. Players like Jalen Mills, Jason Kelce and Halapoulivaati Vaitai were all drafted past the fourth round and have been valuable assets on the Philadelphia Eagles roster.

In this article, we’ll explore late-round prospects the Philadelphia Eagles could be keeping an eye on in the 2020 NFL Draft. We’ll explore the positions of need on the team, the prospects college careers and what roles they could expect to step into once they arrive in Philadelphia.

With the exodus of Jenkins announced earlier this week, we will explore the safety position first, as it has now become one of the most important positions of need for the Philadelphia Eagles in the 2020 NFL Draft.
