Adding some depth off the edge in the 2020 NFL Draft will be important for the Los Angeles Rams. With Dante Fowler gone, the team’s only consistent pass-rusher under contract at the moment is Clay Matthews, who will turn 34 by the start of the 2020 season.

While I don’t expect the Rams to come up empty-handed in free agency, I think finding some young depth in the draft is a must. If LA doesn’t land someone high on their board early on, a guy that fits the mold of what the Rams like off the edge in the later rounds is Carter Coughlin out of Minnesota.

Coughlin turned some heads with his numbers in 2017 and ’18, accumulating 16 sacks and 26.5 tackles for a loss. Unfortunately, his production took a dip in his final year with the Gophers, leading to his projection as a late-round guy.

Measuring at 6-foot-3 and 236-pounds at the combine, Coughlin isn’t the biggest guy off the edge, but he is long and shows off good athleticism. While a bit of a tweener, I think his ability to get after the passer as consistently as he has in his career would make him a low-risk/high-reward selection late in the 2020 NFL Draft.
