Cleveland Browns 7-round 2020 NFL mock draft after big FA signings
We have a trade! Anthony Harris is a player that the Cleveland Browns have been linked to all offseason long leading up to free agency. The Minnesota Vikings surprisingly franchise-tagged Harris before Monday’s deadline, but rumor has it Harris is still available via trade.
Now, the price for Harris is a big question mark at this point, both in terms of draft capital needed to acquire him and the amount of money needed to extend him. NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported that the Vikings were willing to trade Harris for “a mid-to-late round pick”, while Cleveland.com reporter Mary Kay Cabot said the price for Harris may be as high as a second-round pick.
Meanwhile, Jake Trotter of ESPN states that any issue in acquiring Harris would be more so the money that it would take for the Browns to lock him into a contract extension rather than the compensation that Minnesota is looking to receive in exchange for his services.
Nonetheless, Harris was one of my five free-agent targets for the Cleveland Browns published Monday morning, and I still think they bring him in (along with the other three targets that I correctly predicted in my previous article).
Harris had a true breakout season in 2019, tying for the league-lead with six interceptions on the year. Harris showed great versatility from his free safety spot and established himself as a potential leader on defense for whoever he is playing for. He would come in and fill one of the biggest needs that the Browns have remaining on their roster and take their entire defense to the next level.
I think a fourth-round pick is reasonable compensation for Harris based on what we’re hearing to this point, but it boils down to the ability to give him the contract that he wants. Ultimately, I think Berry gets both deals done and Anthony Harris and a rookie safety selected in the 2020 NFL Draft start opening day for the Browns this upcoming season.
