Scouting Report. Kenneth Murray. 2. player. Pick Analysis. Linebacker. Oklahoma. 53

While I highly doubt that Kenneth Murray will be on the board at pick 41 when the Cleveland Browns select in the second round, if he is, they should jump all over it. Murray is still a raw player but he definitely has first-round talent and potential.

Murray is a very athletic player that can range sideline to sideline with ease. He excels as a blitzer and always seems to make big, impactful plays. He has the frame to cover tight ends man-to-man and the athleticism to stay with some wide receivers and running backs out of the backfield in coverage. With time, Murray could definitely improve his reads and decision-making, but the raw ability makes him worthy of a selection this high in the draft.

After releasing Christian Kirksey and letting Joe Schobert leave in free agency, the Browns seem to be turning to younger options at the linebacker position. Mack Wilson and Sione Takitaki were selected in the draft last year and are both set to be starters, at this point, for the upcoming season. Murray would be another talented, young player to bring into the fold.

Although Murray has been consistently mocked in the first round, it is not out of the realm of possibility that he could fall to this pick. It’s not likely, but certainly not impossible. When you look at how free agency has been panning out to this point, most of the linebacker-needy teams that people were mocking Murray to invested a lot of money into the position already.

The Las Vegas Raiders signed Corey Littleton, Schobert is headed to Jacksonville while Kirksey is Green Bay bound. These teams could definitely still draft a player like Murray if they really like him, but it does put some doubt in the air about Murray being a lock to go in the top 40.

Grant Delpit went just one pick before the Cleveland Browns selection, or I would have had to give him some thought as well given the Browns lack of safeties. But with him gone and Murray falling into their hands, it was too good to pass up.

The Browns could still benefit from bringing in a solid veteran option to contribute early and help mentor these young backers, but bringing in talent like Murray to pair with Wilson is a spectacular move for the future. There will undoubtedly be new faces at the position this season and hopefully, they will be ones that will be around for years to come.
