The Houston Texans sent superstar wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins to the Arizona Cardinals in a massive trade involving David Johnson.

The Arizona Cardinals saw an opportunity and they cashed in, big-time. The Cardinals have acquired superstar wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins in a blockbuster deal with the Arizona Cardinals involving running back David Johnson.

The Texans had previously acquired running back Duke Johnson from the Cleveland Browns for a third-round pick, so now they have some really good pass catching running backs but a hole at the wide receiver position.

Considering Hopkins is only 27 years old, this trade seems like a massive loss for the Texans.

Here are the full terms of the deal per ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

If you’re a Cardinals fan, you can’t wait to add a number 10 Hopkins jersey to your collection and you’re thinking about the NFC West title in 2020.

If you’re a Texans fan, you’re probably wondering what you’ve done to deserve this.

This is an absolutely terrible trade for Bill O’Brien, especially considering Houston is taking on the fullness of David Johnson’s salary, which includes over $10 million in guaranteed money this season.

Even getting the relatively high second-round pick from the Cardinals is a small consolation prize in all of this. The Texans still don’t have a first-round pick, and now they don’t have DeShaun Watson’s top target in the passing game.

If you’re Arizona and you were considering a receiver with your top two picks, what player from this class — even if you get your top player at the position — is going to give you more than what Hopkins would?

No one.

This trade is huge for general manager Steve Keim, head coach Kliff Kingsbury, and quarterback Kyler Murray. The Cardinals went from 32nd in the league in scoring in 2018 to 16th in the league in scoring in 2019, and now they have an offensive core of:

QB: Kyler Murray
RB: Kenyan Drake
WR1: DeAndre Hopkins
WR2: Larry Fitzgerald
WR3: Christian Kirk

There are undoubtedly more moves to come for the Cardinals, who also now have flexibility to take the top offensive tackle or defensive player on their board with the eighth overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft.

This trade is a massive ‘W’ for Keim and the Cardinals, and a disturbing loss for Bill O’Brien and the Houston Texans.
