Cleveland Browns: Five free agent targets for the 2020 offseason
Marcus Mariota, Quarterback, Tennessee Titans
Although he was benched for newly rich Titans quarterback Ryan Tannehill during the 2019 season, Mariota is still just 26-years-old and a former second overall pick. He is effective in play action as well and could be the competition that many people want to push Baker Mayfield.
Ameer Abdullah, Running Back, Minnesota Vikings
With Nick Chubb and likely Kareem Hunt returning to the Browns in 2020, running back isn’t a huge need. Ameer Abdullah has been with Kevin Stefanski the past two seasons in Minnesota and could provide depth as a third down, pass-receiving back.
Rashard Higgins, Wide Receiver, Cleveland Browns
With a brand new front office, Rashard Higgins just MAY be willing to return the Cleveland in 2019. After the last regime refused to play him last season, Higgins could use his chemistry with Baker Mayfield to lock himself in as the third receiver in Cleveland.
Devin Funchess, Wide Receiver, Indianapolis Colts
Bringing in a big body receiver like Devin Funchess would allow Jarvis Landry to operate a lot out of the slot, where he really excels. He signed for a big chunk of money with the Colts but his injuries may drive his price back down to reasonable for Cleveland.
David Morgan, Tight End, Minnesota Vikings
Another familiar face for Stefanski to bring in as depth at tight end. Morgan would likely fill the same role he did in Minnesota as a versatile third-string option.
Ricky Wagner, Right Tackle, Detroit Lions
Recently released by the Detroit Lions, Ricky Wagner would be a decent option for the Browns if they miss out on Jack Conklin.
Daryl Williams, Right Tackle, Carolina Panthers
Williams is a likely cheaper option than Conklin and Wagner and aside from his injured 2018 season, he played nearly 2,000 snaps in the last three years for the Panthers. He is still just 27.
Andrus Peat, Guard, New Orleans Saints
Peat is a versatile lineman who has excelled with the Saints and could play at either position on the right side of the line for the Cleveland Browns.
Austin Blythe, Guard, Los Angeles Rams
Like Peat, Blythe has the experience and potential to play multiple positions on the offensive line. He has started 31 of 32 games for the Rams in the past two seasons and could be a solid starting right guard for the Browns.
Vic Beasley, Defensive End, Atlanta Falcons
A one-time NFL sack leader, inconsistency has plagued Beasley throughout his time in Atlanta. A change of scenery and learning from and playing across from Myles Garrett could be just what he needs to get back on track. This would also allow the Browns to definitively move on from Olivier Vernon.
David Onyemata, Defensive Tackle, New Orleans Saints
Onyemata has been a very solid defensive tackle over the past few years for the Saints and could provide great depth as a rotational third DT with Sheldon Richardson and Larry Ogunjobi.
Jon Bostic, Linebacker, Washington Redskins
Bostic has been a journeyman throughout his NFL career but had a career-high 105 tackles last season with Washington. He would add some much needed veteran leadership to a young and inexperienced linebacker room in Cleveland, and would certainly contribute on the field as well.
Jatavis Brown, Linebacker, Los Angeles Chargers
This may be thinking with my heart, bringing an Akron Zip back home to northeast Ohio, but Jatavis Brown totaled 97 tackles in 2018 and could contribute on a team that lacks depth at linebacker.
Jalen Mills, Safety/Cornerback, Philadelphia Eagles
Jalen Mills is a versatile player that DC Joe Woods should love. He can play deep at safety or man to man as a nickel corner. Plus, I’d love to see what his hair looks like dyed orange instead of green.
Mackensie Alexander, Cornerback, Minnesota Vikings
Alexander may be a bit out of the Browns price range for a third corner, but he has the makings to be one of the best nickel corners in the NFL, is still just 26-years-old and could be a huge addition between young corners Denzel Ward and Greedy Williams.
Nickell Roby-Coleman, Cornerback, Los Angeles Rams
The Browns want Nickell for his first name… to serve as their nickel corner. Something he has done well for many years, but not so well that he would command too much money.
Tre Boston, Safety, Carolina Panthers
Not a bad consolation prize if the Cleveland Browns miss out on Anthony Harris. Career-high 11 pass breakups in 2019 in his second stint with the Panthers who will not want to pay Boston while in their rebuild mode.
