Cleveland Browns: Five free agent targets for the 2020 offseason
While the Cleveland Browns may very well be in need of two starting safeties, that amazingly isn’t the biggest area of need for the club. That, unquestionably, is the offensive line. Three different spots on the offensive line, as a matter of fact.
Similar to how I approached the vacancies at safety, you have to evaluate the positional strengths and weaknesses of each position of need on the Browns offensive line. Cleveland will undoubtedly need new starting left and right tackles, and likely a right guard as well.
When you look at the 2020 free agency class as it stands right now, there are very few viable left tackle options. In the draft, you should be able to mold nearly any offensive tackle prospect that you truly believe in into your left tackle of the future.
Cleveland will almost certainly draft a tackle in the first couple rounds of the 2020 NFL Draft, likely with the 10th overall pick. And while a couple of the top tackle prospects played primarily right tackle in college, they should be able to move to the left side of the line.
The best overall tackle prospect in free agency has got to be Jack Conklin formerly of the Tennessee Titans. A former All-Pro and staple for a very successful Titans offensive line, Conklin is likely in for a very big payday this offseason in free agency.
Now the Browns will have to outbid other tackle-needy teams like the New York Jets, but they certainly have the money to do so. If they can lock in a couple of guys like Harris and Conklin, that would really allow them to be flexible in the draft and not force their own hand into drafting specific team needs as opposed to the best players on the board.
