2020 NFL Draft still April 23-25, public events in Las Vegas canceled
The 2020 NFL Draft is still on for April 23-25, but all public events for the draft in Las Vegas have been canceled.
NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell announced on Monday that the 2020 NFL Draft will go on as scheduled. The draft will still begin on April 23rd and will go through April 25th. While the dates and times have not changed, the 2020 NFL Draft will likely look much more different than in years past.
Due to the COVID-19 virus and the risk that is associated with large groups of people, the NFL has canceled all public events that were due to take place in Las Vegas for the 2020 NFL Draft. Basically, we will not see players brought up on stage and introduced to a large crowd.
What the 2020 NFL Draft will look like is still a complete unknown. Will the NFL just make selections on a spreadsheet and announce the results to the public? Will the teams announce their own picks? Will it look similar to the past with Goodell announcing the selections on a stage, just without a group of fans? Honestly, we just do not know yet.
With medical professionals consistently telling us to stay away from large groups of people, the NFL canceling these public events was a no-brainer. However, as long as the correct precautions are taken, it is good to see the 2020 NFL Draft continuing on along the same timeline. The draft can be used as a distraction for us in a time where many of us have nothing but time on our hands.
With the rest of the NBA season on hold, March Madness canceled and the MLB season delayed, it will be nice to see a sporting event go on as scheduled in April. It will certainly be different than we are used to, but any sort of normalcy would be nice. Stay safe everyone, at least we will still have the draft to distract us.
