2020 NFL Draft: 5 sleeper targets for the Chicago Bears
Stephen Sullivan – Tight End – LSU
2019 Season Stats / Receptions: 12 / Receiving Yards: 130 / Touchdowns: 0
The Chicago Bears will likely address the tight end position early on Day Two in the 2020 NFL Draft, rather than opting to take one with a late-round pick. Right now, Chicago has a slew of unknowns at the position that includes Eric Saubert, Adam Shaheen and the recently signed Demetrius Harris. If GM Ryan Pace decides to go a different direction with their earlier picks, then LSU’s Stephen Sullivan should definitely be on their Day Three radar.
Looking at the 2019 LSU Tigers team, specifically the tight end group, much of the attention was given to Thaddeus Moss, son of NFL Hall of Famer Randy Moss. While Sullivan made his contributions, the former wide receiver played second-fiddle to guys like Moss and now Las Vegas Raider Foster Moreau. Despite this, Sullivan still has the potential to contribute at a higher rate in the NFL.
A little bit of an older prospect (will be a 24-year-old rookie), is more of a move tight-end given his background as a wide receiver, so one might not use him in-line too much. However, Sullivan displays a good bit of explosion through his stems and has a good pair of mitts despite being a rather raw player overall.
Given his age and his pure athlete type of profile, Sullivan will more than likely be drafted between rounds six and seven. If the Chicago Bears decide to go after him late in the draft, they wouldn’t necessarily have to be tied to the hip. If the Bears coaching staff can bring out his potential, then Sullivan could be a late-round steal.
