2020 NFL Draft: 5 sleeper targets for the Chicago Bears
Anthony Gordon – Quarterback – Washington State
2019 Season Stats / Completion Pct: 71.6% / Passing Yds: 5579 yds / TDs: 48 / INTS: 6
One of the more contentious issues surrounding the Chicago Bears for the last few months has been what to do at the quarterback position.
As mentioned before, they plan on sticking with Trubisky for the duration but are interested in bringing in a backup. Names such as Cam Newton, Phillip Rivers, and others have been mentioned as potential backups but will probably cost more than what the Chicago Bears are willing to pay.
This is where Washington State’s Anthony Gordon comes in. With the early success of Gardner Minshew in Jacksonville last season, Gordon could potentially be a hot commodity coming out of Mike Leach‘s system.
While I’m not wholly convinced that Gordon is the same type of player that Minshew is, he does offer some intangibles that could warrant a draft selection. On film, Gordon displays good poise, anticipation and ball placement, however, his inconsistent footwork is one of his issues that need to be addressed. Having said that, the potential he does have could entice Matt Nagy and Co. enough to develop him until Trubisky’s contract runs out.
Gordon will likely be a sixth or seventh-round selection much like his predecessor. But if the Chicago Bears want a young, backup quarterback who could eventually replace Trubisky then Gordon is currently one of the better options on the market.
