Las Vegas Raiders: 2020 NFL Draft trade-up targets
By Ian Higgins
The least flashy of the four positions of need on the Las Vegas Raiders roster, Derrick Brown would fill an immediate need and be an almost-certain centerpiece to this defense for years to come. Brown is a powerful nose tackle out of Auburn who also possesses the ability to penetrate the backfield and get to the quarterback. Brown weighs in at a hefty 316 pounds and benched 28 reps of 225 pounds at the NFL combine.
Brown has a surprising first-step for a player his size, able to get to the hip of a blocker within fractions of a second. His hand-fighting is there but primarily relies on his strength to either overpower or out-leverage blockers. Brown is also a high-motor player who may show the most effort from snap to snap of any player in the NFL draft. Even with a 5.16 forty at the NFL combine, Brown made multiple chase-down and open field tackles during his time at Auburn.
Derrick Brown could be the best defensive player to come out of the 2020 NFL draft class alongside Jeff Okudah and Chase Young, and with no true star power on the interior defensive line Las Vegas may not be filling their biggest need, but would surely be bringing in a star for their team in the years to come.
