IOL. Michigan. 811. Pick Analysis. Cesar Ruiz. 1. player. Scouting Report

The Chiefs were able to piece together a solid interior offensive line down the stretch last season, but if we are being honest, they would undoubtedly benefit from some improvement at the position. Nothing is more important for this team than protecting Patrick Mahomes and in order to do that at a high level, they must invest in the interior offensive line. With their first pick of this 2020 NFL mock draft, the Chiefs make that investment by taking Cesar Ruiz in the first round.

Ruiz has been the starting center at Michigan for the last two years but has some experience at guard as well. He has a nice combination of quickness and power up front, which he uses to succeed in pass protection and as a run blocker. Ruiz gets out in space quickly and attacks the second-level extremely well. He is also powerful at the point of attack and shows tremendous grip strength throughout the block.

As good as Ruiz is as a run blocker, he is even better in pass protection. Ruiz does a great job of setting up quickly and shows impressive mirror ability. He is also powerful in the lower half and consistently keeps great pad level which leads to strong anchor ability.

Make no mistake about it, Ruiz is one of the premier interior offensive line prospects in the 2020 NFL Draft class. He is worthy of a late first-round selection and should undoubtedly be on the radar for the Kansas City Chiefs at pick No. 32.
