Round 2

Justin Madubuike. player. 873. IDL. 2. Scouting Report. Pick Analysis. Texas AM

The Dallas Cowboys need to beef up the middle of their defense and Texas A&M’s Justin Madubuike was right there for the taking. Some fans may want a safety taken with this selection, but I think this is a better value pick for Dallas.

Madubuike has great burst and strength and can play in any scheme. He also has great versatility moving around the defensive line. With questions regarding Tyrone Crawford and whether not he’ll be cut taking a defensive lineman early would be smart. There’s also a possibility that Antwaun Woods won’t be tendered a contract and Maliek Collins is set to hit the open market. Either way, there is a big need on the interior line and Justin Madubuike could fill that void.

Round 3

Safety. Jeremy Chinn. player. 123. Scouting Report. Pick Analysis. Southern Illinois. 3

The Cowboys’ secondary needed to be revamped in the offseason and so far, they have found their starting cornerback by taking Henderson in the first round. Now, they need a safety. Jeff Heath is set to become a free agent when the new league year begins next week and fans have been clamoring for an upgrade for a while now. Southern Illinois safety Jeremy Chinn could be a huge upgrade over Heath.

Chinn is a turnover machine as he produced at least three interceptions every season at Southern Illinois and caught four this past season. He also had a very good showing at the NFL Scouting Combine where he put up great numbers in the 40-yard dash with a time of 4.45 seconds. He also had 20 reps on the bench press and a vertical of 41 inches.

I know some people believe the workouts aren’t important, but it makes us go back and watch the tape and see if there’s anything we didn’t see the first time around. A lot of people weren’t aware who Chinn was until his performance at the combine so yes, it does help. For the on-field drills he wasn’t bad at all, showing nice athletic ability with his cuts and hip movement.

If Jeremy Chinn is available in the third round for the Dallas Cowboys, they’ll be fools to pass on him. I can’t remember a player they had that has the ability to force turnovers the way Chinn does. That’s exactly the type of player Dallas needs on their defense.
