The Chicago Bears swing big for a potential franchise quarterback in this seven-round 2020 NFL mock draft.

The 2019 season turned out to be a major disappointment for the Chicago Bears. Despite having a ton of talent on both sides of the ball, the Bears limped to an 8-8 record and a third-place finish in the NFC North.

While it is never fair to put all of the blame on a single player, the regression of quarterback Mitchell Trubisky was a major reason for the Bears’ struggles in 2019. Trubisky took a major step back last season and there are huge questions whether he can be a legitimate NFL starting quarterback going forward. In fact, I think it’s fair to say that Trubisky struggled enough last season to prove that he should not be the guy for the Chicago Bears going forward.

That being said, it is not going to be easy for them to simply cut bait with him and move forward with a new franchise quarterback. The Bears took Trubisky with the second overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft. There are many people in that front office (most notably general manager Ryan Pace) who are strongly connected to that selection.

On top of that, after sending a ton of future draft capital to the Raiders for Khalil Mack, the Bears are not exactly in a strong position to find a new franchise quarterback on the fly.

With that in mind, it seems most likely that the Bears will attack their need at quarterback with a veteran option. There is still a lot of talent on this roster. If the Chicago Bears can find a solid veteran quarterback who is simply not going to kill them, they could quickly become a dangerous team in the NFC. All of the Andy Dalton talk certainly makes a lot of sense for this team.

All of that being said, I would not give up on the idea of finding a potential franchise quarterback in the 2020 NFL Draft. While they do not have a first-round selection, they do hold two second-round picks in the upcoming draft. If there is a quarterback prospect that they really like, the Bears could pair those two second-rounders together and trade-up for a quarterback late in the first round. Or, with a bit of luck, a strong quarterback prospect could fall to them in the second round.

In this 2020 NFL mock draft, the Bears find an extremely interesting quarterback prospect who could push Trubisky for immediate playing time. Who is this quarterback and who else are the Bears able to add to the mix? Find out in this seven-round 2020 NFL mock draft for the team.
