Scouting Report. Edge. player. 58. Pick Analysis. Ohio State. Chase Young. 2

It now seems entirely possible that the Redskins take Tua Tagovailoa, but it’s possible they’re just creating rumors in hopes that somebody will offer a big trade package. They took Dwayne Haskins in the first round last year, so they don’t need a quarterback and Chase Young is a very rare, can’t miss talent.

Last year Ohio State’s Nick Bosa was the second overall pick and he’s already become one of best edge rushers in the league, but as good as Bosa is Young is better. He’s a must double team type of player and if you dare to try to block him with just one guy he will take advantage. It wouldn’t surprise me in the least if he contended for defensive player of the year in his rookie year, he’s that NFL ready.

From a physical perspective, Young is the perfect prototype for a defensive end.  He’s got great size (six-foot-five, 265 pounds) and a freakish combination of strength and athleticism. He’s also not just a freakish physical talent, but he’s very developed as a pass rusher. At Ohio State he won passes rushes at a crazy rate in a variety of ways including with elite quickness, great hand usage, by leveraging his strength in bullrushes and by utilizing his flexibility to bend the edge.

Young had absurd production at Ohio State, particularly his last two seasons where he had 27 sacks in 25 games. I expect him to produce crazy numbers right away in the NFL as well and he’d be a great fit in Washington joining Montez Sweat, Daron Payne, and Jonathan Allen.
