Scouting Report. QB. Justin Herbert. Oregon. 10. player. 47. Combine Results

The third quarterback on many people’s big boards with the talent to possibly be the best out of the 2020 NFL draft, the New England Patriots could have their quarterback of the future in Justin Herbert if they can trade up into the top half of the first round.

Herbert has shown distinct similarities to rival Bills quarterback Josh Allen and could bring a similar explosive spark to a currently dilapidated New England offense. With big arm talent and the ability to make plays with his legs, Herbert could make the most out of New England’s receiving corps.

Herbert is a full-field reader who can see the field well inside or outside of the pocket. His mechanics have been finely tuned and in showings at both the senior bowl and NFL combine, Herbert has the best arm of the draft that can cut through strong winds and get downfield on vertical routes.

The biggest knock against Herbert is that he has been “robotic” and “needs to cut it loose.” These ‘weaknesses’ will actually play into Belichick’s favor if he is brought into New England’s offense. Similarly to a young Tom Brady taking over for an injured Drew Bledsoe, Herbert will be playing as a game-manager, taking the conservative plays to build confidence and give the defense room to work and make plays happen.
