New York Jets build around Sam Darnold in 7-round 2020 NFL mock draft
Fourth Round
Now, I do believe that the New York Jets will sign a cornerback in free agency as well as re-signing Poole, but they’ll still need some depth at the position. Bless Austin and Arthur Maulet did play pretty well when they were asked to start so there could be some nice competition in the defensive back room.
Michael Ojemudia will likely be a developmental player for Gregg Williams, but he does have the physical tools at 6-feet and 199 pounds to compete against bigger receivers. He does need work as a man corner although I think he should be okay in press coverage. This is a pick that should beef up the depth at cornerback.
Fifth Round
Yes, the New York Jets have Le’Veon Bell, but there’s nothing great behind him. Bilal Powell could be brought back and I’m sure fans would like to see him back, however they need some thump and youth at the position.
A.J. Dillon brings both youth and his hard-nosed running style. He could be a very nice compliment to Bell and could spell him in short-yardage situations. If you need a yard to gain Dillon will get you three. He reminds me of old school running backs that just ran through the defender instead of trying to juke them out if their cleats.
A backfield with these three running behind their brand new offensive line could breathe new life to the Jets’ ground game. It is well known that head coach Adam Gase likes to use a running back by committee approach so all three could get a good amount of touches as well. Not to mention Bell and Powell have a history of being banged up, so Dillon would be a very nice addition.
