28. Quarterback. player. Oregon. Justin Herbert. 8. Scouting Report. Pick Analysis

The Raiders make a big splash here to get a shiny new quarterback for their new home in Las Vegas. With Justin Herbert still on the board, the Raiders make a move to ensure that they do not get jumped for this quality quarterback prospect that could contribute right away.

Justin Herbert is QB2 for me right now. He has a great blend of experience, leadership, arm strength, mobility and ball placement. While he isn’t the most consistent thrower at this point, he has the capability to make every single throw at the NFL level.

He could get through his progressions a little better and could make better decisions at times, but his mobility and arm strength really make Herbert stand out in this class. Herbert dominated the Rose Bowl with his legs and has a real cannon for an arm. He could have declared for the draft last year, but went back to Oregon and gained another season of valuable experience.

Derek Carr has been very solid for the Raiders the past few seasons, but Herbert has a lot more upside. And with Tom Brady rumored to be a short term option, who better to learn behind for a few seasons if you’re Herbert? Clearly in that case, and maybe either way, the Raiders would likely move on from Carr at that point.

I think the chance to go up and make a splash with a new quarterback of the future like Justin Herbert is too good to pass up for Mike Mayock and Jon Gruden here. A new home and a new future face of the franchise.
