2020 NFL Mock Draft: Raiders, Jaguars make big trades in round one
It’s looking more and more likely that the Tennessee Titans will be losing Jack Conklin in free agency this offseason. The best replacement for him at right tackle available at this point? Lucas Niang from TCU.
Niang, like most young tackle prospects, especially in the 2020 NFL Draft, is very effective in the run game and is improving as a technical pass protector. But that run-first mentality fits perfectly with what Mike Vrabel, Arthur Smith and the Titans try to do with Derrick Henry (assuming they bring him back).
The Titans could go in a variety of directions with this pick in the 2020 NFL mock draft, but a solid and complete offensive line may be the most important thing for the Titans’ success. Opening run lanes for Henry and keeping a quarterback like Tom Brady upright? Whether it’s Brady or Tannehill or someone else, Niang would help immensely.
Denzel Mims made himself a lot of money at the combine. He put his athleticism on display in Indy and when you combine that with his size and hands, you have a very dangerous NFL weapon for a team that desperately needs one.
Aside from Davante Adams, the Green Bay Packers lack a reliable option in the passing game. Now with Jimmy Graham expected to be out the door, they really need to bring in a couple of viable options for Aaron Rodgers in the passing game if they want to take advantage of their All-Pro QB before the window closes.
Man, what a haul for the Jacksonville Jaguars and their defense. They already addressed multiple spots in the secondary and now are moving their way forward to linebacker. With a big hole at the position next to Myles Jack and one of the best at the position still on the board, a trade-up made a ton of sense.
The Jags can grab another solid young linebacker to pair with Jack and to add to a core of Henderson, McKinney, Yannick Ngakoue (if they can convince him to stay and play) and Josh Allen. While the 49ers inevitably trade out of the first round to acquire another mid-round pick after trading away their second, third and fourth-round picks last season.
While some project a running back to the Kansas City Chiefs in the first round of their 2020 NFL mock draft, I think they have bigger needs elsewhere. I would either address the interior of the offensive line or grab a solid cornerback prospect.
With both starting corners from a ear ago, Kendall Fuller and Bashaud Breeland scheduled to become free agents, the Chiefs go corner here. Take your pick in terms of which one they should/will go with.
Trevon Diggs is probably the highest regarded prospect remaining on the board at the position with arguably the biggest upside. He began his college career playing wide receiver (like his brother Stefon) so he is still learning the nuances of playing corner and defense in general.
But Diggs is very athletic and obviously had great ball skills. He has already improved greatly in just a couple short years and has a very high ceiling with proper coaching and development.
