Chargers 2020 mock offseason after Trai Turner trade
Rest of the 2020 NFL Draft
3. Cam Akers, RB, Florida State
The potential of losing Melvin Gordon to free agency hurts a bit for the Chargers, but they have a chance to add someone in a fairly deep class of running backs at a great value, like Cam Akers would be here in the third round.
Akers has the type of physical style of running to replace Gordon in that way, but he’s also a three-down player and an excellent receiver to pair up with Austin Ekeler, who often splits out to play the slot for the Chargers.
4. Akeem Davis-Gaither, LB, Appalachian State
The Chargers add another tremendous athlete and weapon to their defense here in the fourth round with Akeem Davis-Gaither, who is sort of the poor man’s version of Isaiah Simmons in this draft.
He is a weapon in coverage, as a blitzer, and he plays well sideline to sideline. He may not be a thumper on the inside, but Davis-Gaither is what teams are trending towards using on a full-time basis at the linebacker position.
5. Devin Duvernay, WR, Texas
Duvernay is a speedy slot receiver with a running back’s build who could be a tremendous vertical weapon for Jameis Winston in this scenario.
He does a great job after the catch and is one of the top potential day three options for teams as a guy who can contribute as a home run threat immediately.
6. Darrynton Evans, RB, Appalachian State
A second running back from this class, Evans is a developmental type of player with home run speed at the running back position.
Evans is a tremendous outside-zone runner with vision and breakaway explosiveness.
7. Dalton Keene, TE, Virginia Tech
Dalton Keene adds depth to the Chargers’ tight end position and is a guy who can move around the formation as a tight end, fullback, and H-back.
