2020 NFL Draft, First round: Tristan Wirfs, OT, Iowa

One of the most impressive offensive linemen in the entire 2020 NFL Draft, Tristan Wirfs blew people away at the 2020 Scouting Combine in Indianapolis with his athletic prowess.

At 6-foot-5, 320 pounds, Wirfs ran a 4.86 in the 40-yard dash and recorded the best vertical jump — 36.5 inches — of any offensive lineman since they started recording that number.

Wirfs has positional flexibility going forward as he started primarily for the Hawkeyes at the right tackle position, but he filled in well at left tackle when Alaric Jackson was injured this past season.

This selection would give the Chargers a tremendously upgraded starting five on the offensive line ahead of the 2020 season, and if they feel Pipkins has earned a starting gig, they could use Vaitai as a left guard and Wirfs at right tackle.

One way or another, the Chargers need to upgrade their offensive line badly this offseason, and the additions of Trai Turner, Halapoulivaati Vaitai, and now Tristan Wirfs accomplish that.
