Pick Analysis. DT. 872. Scouting Report. TCU. Ross Blacklock. 2. player

In the second round of this 2020 NFL mock draft, the Panthers attack their need on the interior defensive line by bringing in Ross Blacklock out of TCU.

Blacklock shows an explosive first step and strong hands that allow him to gain an immediate advantage over the opposing offensive lineman. His short-area quickness and lateral agility is incredibly impressive for an interior defensive lineman and allows him to penetrate through and make plays in the backfield often.

At the combine, Blacklock measured in at 6-foot-3, 290, which is certainly a bit on the small side for a player at his position. He also tends to play at a higher level which does not help his situation. Blacklock will get over-powered at times on the inside and will not provide much two-gap value, at least early in his career.

While he is certainly a bit of a one-trick pony at this point in his career, Blacklock undoubtedly has a ton of natural upside as a one-gap penetrator at the next level. The Carolina Panthers should be looking for playmakers in this draft and Blacklock’s ability to make plays in the backfield certainly fits the bill. Snagging him in the second round would be a home run selection for this team.
