2020 NFL Draft: Post-combine two-round 2020 NFL mock draft with trades
In most mock drafts, the Arizona Cardinals typically take an offensive lineman or wide receiver with the eighth overall selection. Both positions would certainly make sense for the team, but I could easily see them going in another direction, especially with defensive unicorn Isaiah Simmons still on the board.
Simmons is an incredibly athletic prospect who was the jack-of-all-trades on the defensive side of the ball in college. Simmons is commonly considered a linebacker prospect, but at Clemson, this guy played all over the field.
He was a tremendous off-ball linebacker who shined as a sideline-to-sideline run defender and in pass coverage. He was so good in coverage that he was also able to jump in and take some snaps at safety and even slot cornerback. As if that were not enough, Simmons would line up on the edge and use his explosive athleticism to create pressure on the quarterback. Simply put, this guy can do it all.
With Kliff Kingsbury and Kyler Murray leading the way, we typically focus on the offensive side of the ball for Arizona. That being said, they will still need to pay attention to their defense. Simmons has a chance to come in and be one of the most explosive and productive defensive players in the entire NFL, giving him obvious upside at the next level. If Simmons is still on the board when the Cardinals go on the clock in the 2020 NFL Draft, he must be under consideration.
