2020 NFL Draft: Post-combine two-round 2020 NFL mock draft with trades
The run on offensive tackles a bit earlier in this mock draft has left few potential first-round players remaining at the position. Luckily for the Cleveland Browns, Andrew Thomas is still available and they snag him to address their largest position of need.
The Browns have done a nice job in recent years of building up their stock of top-tier talent on both sides of the ball. That being said, they undoubtedly lack along the margins and need to find a way to put together some quality depth at many key positions.
Finding talent at the offensive tackle position should be priority number one for new general manager Andrew Berry this offseason. Thomas may not be quite as exciting as the offensive linemen taken a few picks ago, but he is an extremely smart and dependable player who has a bright future at the next level.
Thomas is a big and strong offensive tackle who is incredibly powerful at the point of attack. He shows a strong lower half and incredibly powerful hands. Thomas gets off of the ball quickly and is always looking to drive his man to the ground.
In pass protection, he shows solid mirror ability and fantastic on-field awareness. Thomas does a great job of understanding where his quarterback is and making life difficult on the edge rusher. He is a smart player who does a great job of allowing the edge rusher to fly upfield and take himself out of the play. Thomas also shows tremendous anchor ability.
Thomas is considered more of a power-based offensive lineman, but do not sleep on his ability to move in space. He is not an athletic freak like someone like Wirfs, but he did have a better showing in the agility drills than Wirfs at the combine. He moves well for a man of his size and would be a strong fit for new head coach Kevin Stefanski’s wide zone rushing scheme.
