Miami Dolphins 7-round 2020 NFL mock draft: Building a dynamic offense
In my eyes, there are only two quarterbacks worth taking with one of the first five picks in the 2020 NFL Draft. Justin Herbert and Jordan Love are not too far out of the conversation, but if I were making decisions for an NFL team, I would not want to put my job on the line for those guys. With Joe Burrow almost guaranteed to go first overall to the Cincinnati Bengals, Tua Tagovailoa stands out as an extremely important player for the Miami Dolphins in this draft class.
Tagovailoa should be priority number one for the Dolphins and they should strongly consider using some of their extra draft capital to secure his services as their franchise quarterback. In this 2020 NFL mock draft, the Dolphins use their early second-round selection (39th overall) to trade up from No. 5 to No. 3 overall. This trade puts them in the position to bring Tagovailoa into the mix.
Tagovailoa is an incredibly gifted quarterback prospect who had a fantastic college football career. He is an extremely smart quarterback prospect who does a great job of reading the field and making the most out of what the defense gives him. Tagovailoa has good, but not great arm talent and does a great job of maneuvering in the pocket. He is not an elite athlete at the quarterback position, but he can move around and make some plays with his legs.
The trait that stands out the most in Tagovailoa’s game is his accuracy. He is a pin-point accurate quarterback who consistently places the ball on a dime. He does an incredible job of putting the ball where it needs to be and also shows fantastic touch on his passes.
Make no mistake about it, Tagovailoa is an incredibly talented quarterback prospect who has a bright future at the next level. The only real question about his game is durability.
Tua suffered a scary dislocated hip injury late last season at Alabama. The injury was immediately put Tagovailoa’s long-term health into question, but as the draft process has continued to move along, Tagovailoa has answered all of the health questions. So far, Tagovailoa’s hip has progressed faster than expected and he will be healthy and ready to compete in 2020.
The Miami Dolphins would love to find their franchise quarterback in this draft. With Burrow a seemingly impossible target to acquire, they need to do whatever they can to get Tagovailoa in the mix. In this 2020 NFL mock draft, the Dolphins trade up to secure their franchise signal-caller.
